Meet the Chief Executive Officer
Christine Scarpati is the founding Executive Director of the Child Crisis Center - East Valley, Inc. The Center has provided child abuse prevention services and education in the Phoenix area for over 26 years. A private non-profit agency that opened in 1981 as a 7-bed shelter with a $60,000 budget, it has grown into a multi-faceted, model agency with a $4,500,000 budget. No fees are charged for any services provided, which sets the agency apart from others as no one is denied services because they cannot pay.
Christine has her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from North Park University and Theological Seminary. She also holds a Masters Degree in Administration of Therapeutic Programs for Children from Nova University.
In addition to her duties at the Center, Christine serves on several committees and Boards on behalf of Arizonas children, including: Foundation for Arizonas Future, National Effective Parenting Initiative Advisory Board, Promoting Safe & Stable Families Advisory Committee, Arizona Parenting Alliance, Joint Legislative Adoption & Foster Care Improvement Committee, Joint Legislative Task Force on Behavioral Health for Children in the States Care, Governors Boot Camp Task Force, Childrens Action Alliance Child Welfare Committee, Mesa United Way Ready to Learn Committee and East Valley Institute of Technology Early Childhood Professions Advisory Committee.
Christine has received many awards and recognitions for her efforts on behalf of children, the most recent being the Champion for Children award from the Childrens Action Alliance and the Office of the Governor Proclamation from Governor Jane Hull in recognition of her advocacy for children and efforts on behalf of the Child Abuse Prevention License Plate. The Center has received numerous awards under Christines leadership, and is considered by many to be a model agency in the state of Arizona.
In December of 2002, Christine received the Nonprofit Executive Director of the Year award in the large nonprofit category from the Phoenix-based Organization for Nonprofits Executives (ONE). ONE announced its new innovative "Nonprofit Executive Awards" program to recognize nonprofit executives who have exemplified leadership in the community and have shown a dedication in growing and maintaining their nonprofits.
In January of 2004, Christine received an award for "her vision and persistence in making the Child Abuse Prevention Plate a reality, so that all Arizona citizens can support prevention of child maltreatment". The HOPE for Arizona's Children 2004 awards was presented by Prevent Child Abuse, Inc. at the 15th Statewide Child Abuse Prevention Conference.
