Programs & Services

Children playing at the Child Crisis CenterThe Child Crisis Center has always been committed to preventing child abuse and neglect. Every program we've developed through the years has had prevention as a primary goal. Sheltering children, supporting and strengthening families, and educating the community are our primary target areas that we have emphasized through a multitude of programs.

Over 11,500 children's lives have been touched because of their stay in our large, busy home whether for a few days, a few months or for several years. Our staff and volunteers work together to create an atmosphere of security, acceptance and encouragement so our kids feel safe.

Emergency Shelter

The Center's Emergency Shelter provides 24-hour care to children, birth through eleven years old in a home-like atmosphere and consists of the "Tiny Tots" (birth to 4 yrs), and the "Big Kids" (5 to 11 yrs) homes. There are a total of 42 beds, some of which are allocated to Child Protective Services and others are available for community placement. Specially trained staff and volunteers care for the children and address developmental deficits by using teaching materials that are developmentally appropriate. Clinical staff meet one-on-one for play therapy sessions. School age children attend local elementary schools and after-school tutoring is provided for children who are learning delayed. Sports, field trips and other seasonal activities are provided as well.

This program also provides Respite on University available on Fridays, Saturdays and or Sundays for up to 8 hours. This program is available for boys and girls from 4-11 years of age.
