Donate Your Vehicle

The Child Crisis Center – East Valley is proud to announce our participation in the Vehicles for Charity Donation Program. The program is designed so non-profit organizations can directly benefit from individuals who would rather donate their vehicle for tax purposes to help their favorite charity. After the vehicle is donated, it is taken to public auction and the proceeds from the sale are donated to the charity selected. The program is designed to be easy. Below are the answers to some of the most frequently asked donor questions:

How does the program work?

You may either complete the paperwork online at www.vehiclesforcharity.org or call the donation line (Phoenix area 800-833-3006) When the information is completed, it is forwarded to a tow company who will contact you directly to schedule a pick-up. At the time of pick-up, the driver will issue you a receipt for taking the vehicle and you will give the driver the keys and your signed title.

What do I need to do before I can donate?

Make sure you have a clear title with your name listed on the front of the owner’s section and have the car keys available.

How long will I have to wait before my car is picked up?

After we complete the donation pick-up form, which takes less then 10 minutes, we fax the form to the towing company. They will call you within a couple days to schedule a pick-up. It is usually done within 3 to 4 days.

Do I really get a tax write-off and how much will it be?

As of January 1, 2005, there was a change in the tax laws regarding vehicle donations. The new guidelines state “if a donor’s claimed value exceeds $500 and the item is sold by the charitable organization, the donor’s deduction is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale.” If you have questions or are uncertain of the tax benefits, we recommend that you consult your tax advisor about the possible tax deduction prior to proceeding with this program.

How do I determine the value of my vehicle?

You may use the references listed below to determine the retail value of your vehicle. You will want to deduct from the retail value if you have excessive mileage or needed repairs that would reduce the value of your vehicle.

What is the tax benefit for me to donate my vehicle?

Please visit the IRS web site at IRS.gov or contact your tax advisor for more information.

Additional information regarding the new laws will be posted as they become available. For more information on donating a vehicle to the Center, contact us.
